How do I register for the 2025 NWAC?

NWAC/NWAA is a cosponsor of the SfAA meeting. Registration is through SfAA.

Visit https://appliedanthro.org/annual-meeting/member-registration/

and select "NWAC" under the prompt "What organization are you a member of?"

I don't want to join SfAA

You don't need to join SfAA to register. You are part of the NWAA which is a cosponsor. There are no membership fees for NWAA members. Your cost should be limited to registration only. Select NWAC as your organization when registering.

How many days is NWAC typically?

NWAC typically spans Wednesday night to Saturday morning. For 2025, most of our events will occur between Wednesday night and Saturday morning out of respect for our members schedules. We encourage you to explore the entire conference and meet the members of SfAA and the numerous cosponsor organizations.

How many days is the 2025 SfAA?

The SfAA meeting will begin on Tuesday with a Traditional Foods Forum, which is partially sponsored by NWAA. The traditional conference presentations and meetings will begin on Wednesday and end Saturday. We will announce daily highlights as they become available.

Will NWAC be in a separate space?

No. NWAC is a cosponsor of the SfAA meeting. All of the cosponsor organizations may have their own meetings, events, and sessions, and these will be denoted in the program as NWAC events. The NWAC sessions are open to all SfAA attendees. SfAA and other cosponsor events are open to NWAC members.

Do I submit my abstract to NWAA?

No. You are attending the SfAA conference. Register for the SfAA meeting and then submit your abstract/s through SfAA.

Can NWAA manage my registration for me?

No. Contact SfAA with registration or abstract submission issues. NWAA does not have access to the SfAA system.

Do I have to join the Society for Applied Anthropology?

No. You just have to register for the conference through SfAA. Since NWAA does not have dues, you are attending an international conference at a discounted rate with no membership fees or contribution to NWAA.

Will there be a Tribal Caucus in 2025?

NWAC is working to establish a host for the 2025 Tribal Caucus. We hope the event will be hosted on Wednesday afternoon. Tribal Caucus is an invite-only event for Tribal Historic Preservation Offices (THPO) in the Northwest. Registration for this event is free. Registration is open: https://appliedanthro.org/nwac-tribal-caucus-registration-form/

We will update this page as information becomes available:

What is the Traditional Foods Forum?

A Traditional Food Summit was hosted at the 2011 SfAA in Seattle. The 2025 Traditional Foods Forum builds on this event with exhibits and presentations. Visit the webpage here for updates: https://www.nwaconference.com/nwac2025tff

What are the 2025 registration costs?

NWAA negotiated several special NWAC rates:

Daily registration is $82.

Daily registration is $34.

NWAA Student registration is $100.

 https://appliedanthro.org/product/nwac-day-rate-registration/.

This is a special NWAC cosponsor rate, not available through the main registration page.

Will there be a Tribal Registration waiver?

Is other support available to Tribal Attendees?

The Association of Oregon Archaeologists' NWAC Attendance Stipend for Tribal Members and Tribal Representatives is offering $250 stipends: https://www.oregonarchaeologists.com/grants#PvFzxm

Why is this year so "expensive"?

Registration fees are on par with other local, national, and international anthropology conferences. SfAA 2025 is $80 more than NWAC 2024, but includes access to 2 additional days and wider variety and number of events. This is a large conference held in a space that can accommodate all of the attendees, and is run by paid staff. Please remember that NWAC is entirely volunteer, with no benefits, and the volunteer burden is excessive; NWAC relies heavily on sponsors; and NWAC often runs at a deficit that disadvantages our community and planning efforts. Our "lower" rates do cause an unsustainable expense to our community.

Do I have to stay at the Hilton?

No. There are 11 other hotels within 0.5 miles of the conference that cost less than $150 per night.

Registration is all you need to access the venue.

Will there be hybrid options in 2025?

It is up to session chairs to implement hybrid options such as prerecorded presentations, zoom discussants, etc. Chairs will need to provide the technology and staff to host hybrid options.

How can I become a sponsor?

SfAA has their own sponsorship opportunities for advertising at the conference.

Please consider supporting NWAC this year to support Tribal Registration and the Traditional Foods Forum. We need your support this year!
